Poseidon is a propriety crude oil pipeline system operating in the Gulf of Mexico.  Poseidon, owned 36% by Enterprise Products Partners, 36% by Shell Pipeline Co. and 28% by Marathon Oil Company, is a major sour crude oil pipeline system that was built in response to an increased demand for additional sour crude oil pipeline capacity in the Central Gulf.  Poseidon consists of: 

approximately 117 miles of 16 diameter pipeline extending in an easterly direction from Enterprise 50%-owned platform located at Garden Blanks Block 72 to Poseidon owned South Marsh Island 205 platform and a 20-inch pipeline extending to the Enterprise platform located Ship Shoal Block 332, 


approximately 122 miles of 24-inch diameter pipeline extending in a northerly direction from the Ship Shoal Block 332 platform to Houma, Louisiana and 

approximately 28 miles of 16-inch diameter pipeline extending southeasterly to Ewing Bank Block 873.   

In July 1998, Poseidon completed a 17-mile extension of 16-inch pipeline from Garden Blanks Block 260 to South Marsh Island Block 205.  

In 2004 Poseidon completed a 34 mile lateral extending  from SS 332 to  Green Canyon 249  

Shell Pipeline accepts oil from Poseidon at  Houma, Louisiana , a significant market hub for batch, processing, and transportation of oil  to markets west of Houma  along Shell’s South Louisiana System.  Poseidon can also deliver crude to St. James, Louisiana via Shell's 18" System.
